SEGWAY!!!

THESE THINGS ARE SOOOO COOL!!!!

I got to ride one today. It's just as easy as it looks and the darn thing can rock. I was using the "intermediate" settings and got it up to 10mph or so on the parking lot.

You lean forward to go faster, lean back to slow down stop, or reverse. A simple handlbar grip controls the left/right turn. Turning at speed is a good way to get thrown off.

With a big parking lot and a fixed mounted paintball gun you could do some impressive dogfighting :-)

New week

It's been a busy time. Work is consuming a huge majority of my time. But I did get a chance for a date on Friday. Went ok. Won't go for another. But I have another date this Wednesday with someone who seems pretty cool.

sunday I started my new round of glassblowing classes. Urk. 95F and 80% RH in a blisteringly hot oven. NOT fun. I managed to slow-roast my left hand fairly well. The piece I made wasn't quite what I was aiming for, but I think I know how to do it next time.

Today I had a really odd/nasty experience at work. I was in the DNA chemistry lab and I saw someone not wearing safety glasses. I gestured to her that she should put on a pair. She dissapeared without saying a word. A few minutes later I walk into the next room and see her sitting in front of the chemical hoods ... not wearing safety glasses. I turn to her and say "Hey, we're serious about wearing safety glasses. Put them on." And she blows up at me! The other people I knew were looking at me with "oh my god" expressions on their faces. I almost dragged her to HR right then, but instead I found her supervisor and he said the she shouldn't even be here! She's a temp and they told her not to come in today. I don't need this shit on top of everything else.

But all in all things are going well.

"Staring down the barrel of a .45"

Everyone brushes death in their lives. I'm one of those people that knows the circumstances of that in detail.

The most vivid memory is when someone pointed a M1911A1 .45 pistol at my chest from 3 feet away and pulled the trigger.
The other salient instance was my birth ... 3 months early. The Docs gave me a 2% chance of survival.

The first I dealt with as an adult. The second I dealt with my entire life.

Every second I breath is extrodinary. I still don't know why the gun didn't go off.
