I had to fire a friend today. And 3 others.
I work in a chemical factory when it comes down to it. My friend was the 2nd shift manager and I had just offered him a position working for me doing something else. Unfortunately, his 'going away' party for the shift screwed up production for the weekend. That is unacceptable. Others were fired for past screw ups and this was simply the last straw.
The hardest part was seeing our HR manager break down in tears after one of the 4 left. One of the nice ones who was very understanding.
This part of management sucks.
So I went to NY yesterday. Saw the Gates. Went to a play on Broadway.
Wait. Don't laugh. I'm serious!! I really did!!
Well, to be honest I wouldn't have believed it either. I mean I've always had a very negative image of NY, I passed on seeing the Umbrellas when they were in CA just 3 hours away, and the idea of sitting through a play usually makes me get a headache and my fingers start twitching.
BUT!! This time I had a tour guide who loves NY, the Gates sounded sooo cool. I mean you can actually walk through them in Central Park. Also the "exibit" is surrounded by shopping and other stuff so it's more of a nice walk and "Oh yeah! Isn't that the Gates? Lets go see" type response. As for the play ... it was "12 Angry Men" one of my favorite movies and it was well done. The director needs to work with the actors so that when all are talking at once in the jury room (which is key to the story), the actor's voice you are supposed to hear isn't overwhelmed by the other 11. But it was good.
So this weekend I helped move a couch .... no problem right? Well we couldn't get it up the stairs from the ground floor.
Solution? Lift it up over the deck and bring it in the side door!
Wheet! Fun :-)
